GHHS 20th Anniversary

The Gold Humanism Honor Society was created in 2002 with three medical school chapters. We are thrilled to be celebrating 20 years, 180 chapters, and nearly 45,000 members. Look for special events throughout the year, including at our Annual Gala on June 9th. The conference will include a GHHS Day on May 7 with a toast to the 20 years and all those who made it possible and many other special surprises. Stay tuned!

There is also a commemorative 20th anniversary GHHS pin. GHHS members can request a pin be mailed to them for free. We would love for to also share a memory from your GHHS membership or a moment of humanistic care.

2022 GHHS International Initiative

The 2022 conference is drawn from the 2022 GHHS International Initiative of the same name, Healing the Heart of Healthcare. This theme is the focus of GHHS chapter work all year long. It is a call to reinforce our essential humanism and humanity, a multi-year initiative designed to continue creating the change that true humanistic healthcare requires.

The heart of healthcare is humanism. And true humanistic care – compassionate, collaborative, scientifically excellent care – depends on seeing each other’s humanity. The humanity of the patients we care for, and our own humanity, which has frequently been neglected through the difficult, seemingly endless hours of this pandemic. Without humanism, without deep understanding and respect for each other, we all suffer. Our mental health is at stake. Our connection to each other is at risk.

We encourage your work in this initiative to lean on the power of community building, storytelling and health-related narratives (art, music, film, writing, dance, etc.), mentorship programs (doctors and educators to medical students, but also students to their docs!), and more. Through these projects, we hope to fortify our relationships, highlight a variety of perspectives across the continuum of healthcare, and gaze forward to a brighter future.
