Each February, the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) hosts two major inspiring events of humanism: Solidarity Week of Compassionate Patient Care and Thank a Resident Day. We invite all GHHS chapters, members, schools, and healthcare institutions to take part in these special celebrations. We offer stickers, downloadable banners, a weeklong Tell Me More license for Solidarity Week, and more to help support the activities, which are creatively designed by students and leaders at each local site.
Sign up for Solidarity Week to share your plans and request free stickers by Feb. 6.

2023 Solidarity Week
Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care is always held on the week of Valentine’s Day, a fitting time for an event infused with love. Solidarity Week both promotes compassionate, patient-centered care and recognizes healthcare professionals who care deeply for their patients every day. In 2023, Solidarity Week will be celebrated February 13-17.
GHHS chapters around the globe have created an amazing variety of activities, including delivering valentines to patients and healthcare team members, hosting a celebratory breakfast, bringing in therapy animals, handing out customized fortune cookies, and much more.
Many GHHS chapters take the opportunity to use the Gold Foundation’s Tell Me More® program, which helps medical students and other healthcare team members learn more about their patients’ lives and share that knowledge by crafting signs for display over patients’ beds. The program began at the Icahn School of Medicine with the goal of empowering patients, caregivers, and hospital staff to connect with each other on a more human level.
The Tell Me More® signage and materials are available to Solidarity Week participants in a special free temporary, weeklong license. (Medical schools and hospitals are welcome to purchase a Tell Me More® license to use the communications tool year-round, and members of the Gold Partners Council at the Hippocrates level receive a license with their membership.)
If your GHHS chapter or healthcare institution would like to participate in the 2023 Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care, please sign up here to share your plans and request free stickers and a weeklong Tell Me More® license. (Deadline for free stickers is Feb. 6).
You can also download this PDF file of a 2.5×8-foot banner shown above, and have it printed locally or through an online service like VistaPrint to hang during the week.
Solidarity Week participants are encouraged to share their activities on social media and tag the Gold Foundation. View the heartfelt tweets from 2022 here.

2023 Thank a Resident Day
Thank a Resident Day was created in 2018 to celebrate resident physicians and fellows, who both serve as critical care team members in hospitals, clinics, and other residency sites and who teach and mentor medical students. Thank a Resident Day will be Friday, Feb. 24, this year.
Residency is a key component of graduate medical training, offering an in-depth exposure to medical practice. It can often lead to long working hours matched with many responsibilities. Residents serve as the “house staff” of the hospital and are an integral part of the healthcare team, often serving as indispensable resources for medical students, especially during a clinical clerkship. In 2018, the Gold Humanism Honor Society decided to bring to light the importance of the residence staff and encourage medical students at chapters throughout the nation to show their gratitude and appreciation.
Thank a Resident Day has since expanded to hundreds of institutions around the country. In 2022, more than 500 residency sites participated!
If your GHHS chapter or healthcare institution would like to participate in the 2023 Thank a Resident Day, please sign up here to share your plans and request free stickers. (Deadline for free stickers is Feb. 20).
