This new benefit is extended to Hippocrates and Blackwell members of the Gold Partners Council to help foster a humanistic patient experience
The Arnold P. Gold Foundation is delighted to announce that Harry Agress Jr., MD, a retired radiologist and now professional photographer, will be generously donating large-scale Fine Art Prints of his photographs to select Gold Partners Council hospitals and healthcare institutions.
The Gold Partners Council is a group of leading hospitals, health systems, and medical schools that support the mission of humanism in healthcare and the Gold Foundation. Hospital and health system members at the Hippocrates and Blackwell levels are invited to select large-scale photographs for display in patient areas, such as photographs at no charge.
“We are thrilled to be able to share these exquisite photographs with our Gold Partners Council members,” said Stuart Chizzik, Chief Development Officer at the Gold Foundation. “We are grateful for Dr. Agress’ generosity and his appreciation of our shared mission of humanism in healthcare. We hope these photographs provide solace and a touchpoint of beauty for many patients and their family members.”
Dr. Agress is retired from his radiology practice at Hackensack University Medical Center and is volunteer teaching residents at Columbia Presbyterian and Weill/Cornell Medical Centers. Throughout his lifetime he has taken gorgeous photographs across the globe, including sweeping landscapes from Europe, Southeast Asia and China to the vistas of Utah, spectacular glaciers and wildlife of Alaska to the dazzling skylines of New York City. Multiple photographs have already been installed at leading hospitals throughout the country. The Gold Partners Council initiative will extend the impact of his photographs to more patients and families.
“Hospitals can be very intimidating, and patients frequently enter with a great deal of trepidation. I strongly believe that art can have a significant emotional impact, not only on patients, but also on visitors and staff by creating a welcoming, supportive and hopeful environment of beauty and color,” said Dr. Agress.
Dr. Agress was first introduced to photography when his father, who was a physician, gave him a camera for his 10th birthday. Photography became a steadfast passion as Dr. Agress attended Tufts University School of Medicine, completed a medical internship at Mount Sinai (NY), and proceeded to a radiology residency at Columbia University Medical Center, and a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health.
“I have always been a very visual person, having looked inside the human body for 36 years as a radiologist,” explained Dr. Agress, on his website. “Photography has allowed me to look outside the human body into its surroundings, and occasionally back again into its soul.”
