The Gold Foundation teamed up with the Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University to support health teams in this pandemic with a series of webinars. Part I of this two-part series is available for viewing here.
Part II, part of the Gold Human InSight Webinar, was taped with a live audience on June 3, 2020, offered time to reflect on and explore the various aspects both healthcare providers and patients bring to the care environment. The webinar additionally promoted ways to facilitate communication beyond diagnoses and healthcare roles. These short 20-minute webinars are designed to carve out time for reflection in your busy schedule.
The session featured two representatives from the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, Elizabeth Bojsza, Assistant Professor of Practice, and Susmita Pati, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Program Advisor, and two representatives from the Gold Foundation, Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth Cleek, PsyD, and Senior Director, Strategy and Business Development, Pia Pyne Miller, MPH.
Additionally, Part II included a poem by Frankie Abralind, Executive Director of The Good Listening Project that shared why the Gold Foundation and the Alda Center are working together now to support healthcare professionals. The Good Listening Project promotes good listening in hospitals to improve healthcare outcomes. By providing modeling of and training in listening we build listening cultures that support patient safety, nursing resilience, provider well-being and the humanization of healthcare. Poets from The Good Listening Project wrote custom poems for attendees at the 2019 Gold Humanism Summit.
