This Gold Human InSight Webinar spotlights the new documentary Why Doctors Write, followed by a special panel discussion with film producer/director Ken Browne and two cast members, physician-writer Dr. Danielle Ofri and narrative medicine pioneer Dr. Rita Charon.
Dr. Rita Charon is Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons and Executive Director of Columbia Narrative Medicine. Dr. Danielle Ofri is Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Bellevue Literary Review, Clinical Professor of Medicine at NYU School of Medicine, Internist at Bellevue Hospital, frequent contributor to The New York Times, and author of numerous books, the latest of which is When We Do Harm: A Doctor Confronts Medical Error.
The Gold Foundation has supported Why Doctors Write since it was simply an idea back in 2016, seeding the concept with a grant. A preview of the film was screened at the Gold Humanism Summit in 2019 in Orlando, Florida. The Gold Foundation was delighted to host the first virtual worldwide premiere of the completed, 35-minute documentary, on Oct. 15, 2020.
This recording includes the trailer, not the full-length documentary. If your institution would like to screen the full-length film, please contact Pia Pyne Miller, MPH, Senior Director of Strategy and Business Development, at pmiller@gold-foundation.org.
The Gold Foundation created Gold Human InSight Webinars to bring inspirational live and pre-recorded virtual webinars to healthcare professionals and learners. The Gold Human InSight Webinars feature Gold Ambassadors and leaders from our Gold Circle Network of Speakers, often in close collaboration with our institutional and organizational partners. The theme of the 2020-2021 Gold Human InSight Webinar series is “Care, Compassion, & Collaboration during the Dual Pandemic.” Access the full library of past webinars and check our Events calendar for upcoming events.
