ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ—The Arnold P. Gold Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Mrs. Laurel Epstein and Dr. Scott Shaffer to its Board of Trustees. These two distinct and admirable individuals join our Board following years of philanthropic dedication and academic commitment to humanistic healthcare, respectively. “The addition of Laurel and Scott to our Board of Trustees further enhances the strength and breadth we are continuously striving for. Laurel is a passionate fundraiser and community advocate, while Scott is tremendously dedicated to taking the Gold Humanism Honor Society to the next level. We are delighted to announce the addition of them both,” said Mr. Richard C. Sheerr, Chairman of the Board.
Mrs. Laurel Epstein joins the Board of Trustees as a community leader and philanthropic champion. She currently serves as President of the Bishop House Foundation, where she is spearheading the restoration of an 1860 historic property. In addition, Mrs. Epstein has previously sat on the Board of Georgetown University’s scholarship program and chaired the Parent Leadership Program while her two daughters attended. Mrs. Epstein has had a floral business for 35 years, which focuses on charity work. Outside of her community work, Mrs. Epstein enjoys gardening, helicopter skiing, and traveling with her husband and daughters.
Scott Shaffer, MD is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science and Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and the Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Consult/Liaison Services at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Shaffer is the Chair-Elect of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) Advisory Council and currently serves as Chair of the Program Committee. Dr. Shaffer was inducted into GHHS as a medical student at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He then continued on to the Alpert Medical School of Brown University to complete a residency in Psychiatry and the New York University School of Medicine to complete a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Shaffer joins our Board of Trustees as an ex officio member to strengthen GHHS as a pillar of the Gold Foundation.
