How We Heal: Advocating for Environmental Justice in Medicine (Hosted by UC Riverside, School of Medicine)

Why do health disparities persist? How can we address them at their roots? Structural Competency is the capacity to recognize and respond to health outcomes as the downstream effect of social, political, and economic structures. Our conference is open to the public and we invite health professionals, scholars, students, and community organizers to join us in learning new perspectives and developing skills for advocacy at the bedside and beyond.

This year’s conference brings together national experts, community organizers, health professionals, public policy professionals, and students to explore how environmental justice ties into medicine. We hope to strengthen our network and connect our community to the larger network supporting individuals whose well-being is directly affected by their environments. On March 5, we open with Mike Davis, author and Emeritus Professor of Creative Writing at University of California, Riverside. On March 6, the keynote speaker is Andrea Vidaurre, the Co-Founder and Policy Lead of People’s Collective for Environmental Justice in Riverside, CA.
