The 2024 Gold Humanism Summit will include a hands-on workshop to create abstract portraits, led by Jesse Koskey, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor, UC Davis.

This session will be held Thursday, February 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. in Room 309-310.

All spots have been filled for the Abstract Portrait Workshop, however you can sign up to be on the waitlist using the form below.

About the Workshop

Good clinicians, like good portrait artists, try to capture something beyond anatomy and appearances: the humanity, feelings, stories, and spirits of others.

In this workshop, participants will use abstract art to create a “portrait” of someone that records not their face, but other essential characteristics of an interaction.

This workshop is open to anyone, regardless of familiarity (or comfort) with drawing.

Participants will be given art materials and an introduction to techniques and concepts. They will partner with another attendee, to sit and talk (discussion prompts will be available). During the conversation, participants draw what they are feeling, thinking, and/or hearing in response to their partner. The final part of the workshop will be gathering as a group to share and discuss our portraits.
