This session was part of Day 2 of the 2021 Humanism & Healing Conference: Structural Racism and Its Impact on Medicine, hosted by the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS).
In order to break a cycle, we must first acknowledge our history. Expert speakers provided perspective on the history of racism in medicine in Atlanta, and small group discussions around vaccine access and hesitancy followed to prepare attendees for compassionate, informed care of patient.

Marietta Collins, PhD, is a Psychologist and Associate Professor, Director of Behavioral Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine.
Sheryl L. Heron, MD, MPH, FACEP, is a Professor & Vice-Chair of Faculty, Engagement & Empowerment, Department of Emergency Medicine Associate Dean – Community Engagement, Equity & Inclusion, Associate Director for Education & Training – Injury Prevention Research Center at Emory (IPRCE) Emory University School of Medicine.

Elizabeth Mensah is a fourth-year medical student and President of the GHHS chapter at Emory University School of Medicine.
