Cindy Chang, MD, is currently a pediatric emergency medicine fellow at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and a clinical instructor for the department of emergency medicine at University of Cincinnati. She earned her Doctorate of Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Medicine where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). Dr. Chang completed her emergency medicine residency training at Los Angeles County-Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she had the privilege of caring for a largely underserved and uninsured patient population. Dr. Chang is passionate about providing humanistic care to patients and their families, and addressing health disparities of under-resourced, vulnerable, and marginalized patient populations. During her free time, she enjoys the outdoors, traveling, photography, and cooking. She lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband, Frank and their golden retriever, Theo.
Jacob Altholz, MD, is an emergency medicine resident in Las Vegas, Nevada. Inducted into GHHS as a medical student at the Uniformed Services University, his goals include increasing and solidifying resident involvement, believing that the community can serve as a support system and motivator for humanism in everyday medical care. He was originally born and raised in Aurora, Colorado and spends his time reading novels at coffee shops, singing in languages he doesn’t speak at all, and picking up/putting down heavy things until he is very tired.
Aditi Singh, MD is an associate professor in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Internal Medicine and currently serves as the internal medicine residency program director. She also serves as an advisor for the School of Medicine’s Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) chapter. She earned her Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. Dr. Singh completed her internal medicine residency and chief residency at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, where she was inducted into the GHHS as a faculty member and also received the Leonard Tow Humanism In Medicine Award. Dr. Singh has been in medical education for over 10 years. Dr. Singh is passionate about medical education and providing compassionate, humanistic care to patients and their families. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, games, and the outdoors. She lives in Henderson, Nevada with her husband and three children.
Hello! My name is Cynthia “Annette” Reyes (she/her/ella), born and raised in El Paso, TX. I am a kidney transplant recipient and strive to honor my donor’s sacrifice! In July, I will be a pediatric resident. In my free time, I enjoy guided painting sessions, watching Korean dramas, playing video games, and spending time with family and friends. Proud to have been inducted into GHHS at the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and look forward to continue practicing humanism in medicine as a resident and beyond.
Dr. Gargya grew up in Dublin, Ireland and completed his undergraduate education in Genetics and Cell Biology at Dublin City University, where he graduated magna cum laude. Whilst there, he also represented Ireland in university cricket and was invited to the Aras an Uachtaráin to speak with the President of Ireland. He received his medical degree from the University of Limerick in Ireland and a student internship at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Dr. Gargya’s achievements, personality and surgical talent have resulted in a truly stellar career thus far. He was recruited for his surgical internship at the world-famous Mayo Clinic (Phoenix, AZ campus), consistently ranked as one of the best hospitals in the world. His General Surgery residency was at the University of Connecticut, where he was chief resident in 2018/19. Dr. Gargya then pursued his specialization training in his beloved field of Plastic Surgery at St Joseph Health in New Jersey, a program that only offers one training spot per year, where he was the Chief Resident and Chief Fellow in Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Gargya has over 10 years of surgical experience, has training in the most cutting edge and advanced Plastic Surgery techniques and has performed thousands of surgeries. He considers Plastic Surgery an art form, and for him it is about creating artistic masterpieces for his patients. This matched with his obsession for excellence and patient safety results in a truly world class combination.
Dr. Gargya has won numerous awards throughout his career. One of the most significant was his nomination by patients, peers, hospital staff and medical students to be inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, in recognition of his exemplary service, integrity, clinical excellence and compassion at the University of Connecticut. He has publications in elite journals such as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Gargya is also on the review board for multiple Plastic Surgery journals. He has presented at numerous national and international meetings. He has presented at the esteemed Grand Rounds at the Mayo Clinic and University of Connecticut. His paradigm shifting research on sebaceous cysts was selected to be presented at the Mayo Clinic in 2015. He has also been invited to speak at multiple international events and serves on multiple advisory boards.
An important part of developing this mastery of Plastic Surgery is the ability to give back. He recently went on a mission trip to Africa to perform close to 30 surgeries on babies born with facial disfigurement (Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate). Apart from Plastic Surgery, Vipul’s other passion is music. He is a musician and DJ with several releases charting number 1 on the main chart for electronic music, Beatport. He also loves exercising, sports, traveling, sunny weather and spending time with his friends and family.
